Welcome to The Cake Mama! Sharing our vegan life with lifestyle inspiration, plant based recipes and our transition into slower living in the Okanagan.

Happy Birthday to ME!

This is 37 friends, and I am just so incredibly grateful for everything that has brought me to where I am today. If 36 taught me one thing, it was that taking risks and putting a toe outside of your comfort zone is truly the key to propelling your dreams and goals no matter what you think or what others might say or think. In this last year, I took the plunge to launch some products for The Cake Mama- something I never dreamed I'd be able to do, and while it is still in its humble beginnings, I am so touched by the amount of support I've received and in your trust in me to bring you items that will add value to your life. We also packed our bags and moved 400km away from family ...

Spiced Peach & Caramel Topped Pancakes

Lazy mornings and BIG hearty breakfast that feel like warm hugs on the weekends: that’s totally my jam! It’s the feeling of home when everyone is still in pyjamas and we have nowhere to be and we can all share a laugh or actually finish a cup of coffee while it’s still hot. Sometimes we even rock a super indulgent breakfast for dinner because hey, it can be nice from time to time to not have to say the word, “EAT!” every 5 mins at the table especially when there’s coconut whip involved! Last week our neighbours graciously gave us a box of their delicious peaches right from their tree- these were soooo juicy they were dripping at each bite! So what better than to forego the ...

I also want to add the disclaimer that nothing in this post is sponsored (though maybe it should be LOL!) and this is purely my experiences that I’m sharing with you. Ok, let’s dive in! FlightsWe ALWAYS fly out of the US. Not only are flights significantly cheaper when you fly out of Bellingham or Seattle, but you skip ...

Moving to Kelowna: Why We Did It!

Have you ever had a moment where you visited a place and thought to yourself, “man I could get used to living here!” Of course when I say that I don’t mean somewhere incredible like Maui or Bora Bora- or maybe I do 🤔..LOL! Well, that’s sort of how the idea of moving to the Kelowna transpired. Our family has been visiting the Okanagan every year since Olivia was 2 and every year we’ve visited (mainly Penticton and Summerland) my husband and I would always ponder about what life would be like if we moved up there. It’s also a place where we’ve built other family memories too, for instance we were camping up there when I announced to everyone we were pregnant with our precious little ...

Chickpea Farinata (Crêpe)

If you were to ask me a couple years ago if I would ever one day rejoice in the magic that surrounds chickpeas, I’d probably not be listening while in the midst of draining the liquid out of a can. 😱😂 It wasn’t until our family stopped eating animals nearly 2 years ago that I discovered what an amazing egg replacer it is for many of my beloved recipes. Fast forward to 2019 and my version of a chickpea farinata gives me ALL. THE. HEART. EYES!What exactly is a farinata? It’s essentially a crispy crêpe which in this case is made by chickpeas. Did you know that a 1/4c of chickpea flour boasts 5g of protein, 19g of carbs, 4g of fiber and absolutely NO cholesterol or fat? Move over eggs- ...
