Casa Cake Mama: Building Our Dream Kitchen with Ikea – Part 3

Today’s post is probably the most exciting part of the IKEA Kitchen installation process: ACTUALLY installing your kitchen! I’ll tell ya, seeing a kitchen you designed on a computer to having it all come together in real life is so incredibly rewarding. If you watched my Q & A session on Instagram, you’ll know that we built our kitchen around managing a household with 3 kids and a slew of other projects, so getting to the point where our cabinets weren’t just hanging around the living room was a huge sense of accomplishment!  In my final post about our journey to assembling our kitchen, I’m sharing how the cabinets were installed, what the finishing pieces are and how they complete ...

Casa Cake Mama: Building Our Dream Kitchen with IKEA – Part 2

I think it’s pretty safe to say that nearly everyone at one point has assembled a piece of IKEA furniture, however, it’s likely not everyone has sorted and assembled 160 pieces of IKEA furniture in the span of 2 weeks! On part 2 of building our dream kitchen with IKEA, I’m going to share how it arrived, how we organized the parts and how easy it was to assemble the cabinets! When we put our order through we were still living in Langley but had possession of our house in Kelowna. During the week period between possession date and move in date, we had our contractor do all the demolition in the kitchen so that we wouldn’t have to be around for the bulk of it. In classic renovation form ...

Casa Cake Mama: Building Our Dream Kitchen with IKEA – Part 1

The time has come my friends to share our kitchen renovation story! It’s been 4 months since we moved into our home in Kelowna and if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know we jumped right into tearing up the existing kitchen the moment we took possession of the house.  The kitchen had a pony wall with a bar type table that was far too short to be functional and count as counter space and just large square footage with nothing in the middle - truly wasted space. We knew when we looked at the house that the wall would have to go as well as the closet pantry.  We also knew we loved the idea of a really big island where we could prep and store all of our dry goods instead of ...

A Very Vegan Thanksgiving

Are you ready to have the most delicious Thanksgiving that is completely packed with flavour and best of all cruelty free?! I have gotten some questions about the types of dishes I prepare for this iconic dinner as we are now 2 years into eating completely animal free. How crazy is that?! It's felt like it's zipped by. We have certainly navigated our way through huge hits and fails and have a good understanding of what types of dishes the whole family will love. Each year Thanksgiving dinner is hosted by my parents and we usually bring a couple of dishes that I know my kids will enjoy and aligns with how we eat- spoiler alert: we're the only ones that eat a fully plant based diet in ...

Happy Birthday to ME!

This is 37 friends, and I am just so incredibly grateful for everything that has brought me to where I am today. If 36 taught me one thing, it was that taking risks and putting a toe outside of your comfort zone is truly the key to propelling your dreams and goals no matter what you think or what others might say or think. In this last year, I took the plunge to launch some products for The Cake Mama- something I never dreamed I'd be able to do, and while it is still in its humble beginnings, I am so touched by the amount of support I've received and in your trust in me to bring you items that will add value to your life. We also packed our bags and moved 400km away from family and ...

Spiced Peach & Caramel Topped Pancakes

Lazy mornings and BIG hearty breakfast that feel like warm hugs on the weekends: that’s totally my jam! It’s the feeling of home when everyone is still in pyjamas and we have nowhere to be and we can all share a laugh or actually finish a cup of coffee while it’s still hot. Sometimes we even rock a super indulgent breakfast for dinner because hey, it can be nice from time to time to not have to say the word, “EAT!” every 5 mins at the table especially when there’s coconut whip involved! Last week our neighbours graciously gave us a box of their delicious peaches right from their tree- these were soooo juicy they were dripping at each bite! So what better than to forego the meal ...
